8 years

Today marks eight (8) full years with Acel. On the 15th of May, 2004, Acel and I kissed (for the first time) as we exchanged our “I do”s” before God, our families, our pastor and over two hundred friends in a little garden in the other side of the city.
Today, we have 2 boys, Yeshi (aged 1) and Tashi (aged 3).
A lot has happened over the last eight years. We’ve had great times. We’ve had terrible times too. Our bank accounts have gone up and down. There were days we were criss-crossing islands and continents on jet planes. There were other days we were both walking home with barely enough coins in our pockets for a jeepney. There were days we were eating in fancy hotels and buffets. There were days we were eating nothing. There were times we were spouting mushy poetry to each other. There were other days we were lost in rage (and in translation) over some of the pettiest of our arguments.
So, marking eight years, what has kept us going? Simple. Eight years ago, on this day, we made a vow, a decision to stick together.
My dad told me that my Oma would tell him that there’s a saying: “If you say A, then you say, B, C, D, E, F, G.. all the way to Z.” That’s what marriage is about. Commitment. Although my own mom and dad haven’t been too great of an example. My Oma has been fantastic, sticking it out with Opa all those years. Same story with Acel’s mom & dad. Those guys have spent over 40 years of the same ups and downs Acel and I probably have gone through. Probably even tougher ups and downs.
That’s marriage. What a crazy life. What a crazy adventure. So happy I have Acel to share this adventure with me.
Here’s to the rest of our crazy lives. I love you Acel! Happy anniversary! : )
